Gabbro Commissions

What to expect

The following are some ideas of how you can make use of my photographic and professional mountaineering services and they all feed into the same process. What you will get is a personal service including contacting you to work out what's best for your circumstances or event. I'll research the area, venue or topic beforehand and arrive prepared to put your request into practice.

Upon completion, you will receive a private online gallery where you can browse and download your images. The gallery will be password protected and not generally published so only you will have access to it, or know it exists. Of course, you will be free to distribute the location and password of your gallery to friends and family. Each image in the gallery will have various printing or mounting options should you wish to display your images. Information on ordering prints from my galleries (including your private one) is availble on my ordering page and my bespoke products page. If you'd like to discuss a commission, either from the ones suggested or something entirely different, just give let me know via my contact form. Prices vary as commissioning me to make the most of your requirements is a bespoke service but rest assured, is of the highest quality.

Your Final Munro

It's a special event in your life, topping out on your final Munro, champagne in the rucksack, a lifetime of friends cheering you on. I should know, having been at several 'compleations' over the years, including my own! I'm a qualified Summer Mountain Leader (ML) and have completed the Winter ML training, so why not commission me to record your special day in the mountains?

Events and people

If you've had a browse and found that my images complement your outlook on life, perhaps you'd like to commission me to record some special event or person. Although I'm a mountaineer and mainly create landscape photographs, I also love making portraiture images, especially film noir and the occasional small wedding. Sometimes I like to cover an event just for the fun of it such as Bike4Life held in Shropshire earlier this year and you can get a flavour of how I like to photograph events by browsing my images here.

Digital Photography Skills

For many years I created photographs on black and white film, developing and printing them myself but a few years ago I moved into digital photography. It's hard to beat the immediate feedback and freedom to shoot as many frames as you like, although I still work in black and white film occasionally, both 35mm and medium format. Having had features published and exhibitions, composition is close to my heart. How it can tell a story, convey a mood, change an atmosphere is the true nature of creating memorable photographs. Having a good knowledge of digital darkroom techniques using Lightroom and Photoshop complements the capture of stunning images. If you're on Skye at any time, why not get in touch for a lesson or two on photographing the beautiful landscape we have on the island or perhaps a session on editing your images?

Web design and development

Perhaps you're a photographer and would like advice on website design. Being a software engineer, I have a fair amount of web development knowledge, which helps me deal with responsive design, suitable iconography and mobile app development. I designed and developed the Gabbro Photography website using a mixture of custom programming and industry standard responsive design frameworks such as Bootstrap and JQuery, all of which I'm able to discuss and teach. I also designed my blog using Hugo, a modern and fast framework.
